India Unveils ₹1,500-Crore National Fiber Scheme to Stabilize Industry

17 February 2026

The Union Budget 2026–27 introduced a ₹1,500-crore National Fiber Scheme as prices touched ₹10,000 per quintal, targeting acreage expansion beyond 5.56 lakh hectares.

Around 30 lakh bales remain locked in speculative stocks, with a February 10 deadline set for liquidation.

The government increased procurement prices to ₹87.20 per bag to support industry stability.

The sector sustains nearly 4 million livelihoods, with a ₹15,000-crore turnover target set for 2026 through modernization and diversification.
