India Budget Boosts South Gujarat Textile Sector
Surat, India’s largest man-made fibre (MMF) hub, produces 6 crore metres per day, strengthening its position as the textile capital of South Gujarat.
The South Economic Region (SER) spans Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Tapi, Dang and Valsad, contributing nearly 25% of Gujarat’s GDP while covering only 10.8% of the state’s area.
Under the NITI Aayog G-HUB initiative, the region is targeted to become a globally competitive economic hub with a projected size of $1.3–1.5 trillion by 2047.
The Union Budget announced cluster-specific textile technology upgradation support and proposed Centres of Excellence across major textile clusters.
For MSMEs, the CGTMSE credit limit has been increased from ₹5 crore to ₹10 crore per unit, and a Textile University has been proposed in an industrial area.
