China Polypropylene (PP) Market Update - Sept 2025

CNOOC Ningbo Daxie Petrochemical’s new 450kt/year PP plant started in early September, raising East China’s PP capacity above 10 Mt/year and China’s total to 47.485 Mt/year, up 3.7 Mt/year from 2024.

On Sept 17, Yuanjin New Materials hoisted 10 key units for its 750kt/year PDH and two 300kt/year PP units under the Shangyu project covering 1,269 mu.

The site also includes a 300kt/year PO and 250kt/year hydrogen peroxide unit, using all propylene and H₂O₂ for downstream PP and PO output.

On Sept 19, Guangxi Petrochemical’s 400kt/year PP unit completed a one-time successful trial, with full start-up expected in Q4 2025.

In Aug 2025, China imported 247kt PP (-21.38% YoY) — 159.6kt homo PP (-22.23%), 77kt co PP (-18.96%), 10.5kt ra co PP (-25.45%).

Exports grew 29.83% YoY to 275.9kt, led by homo PP 250.2kt (+32.77%), returning China to a net export position
