Australia's Wool Prices Rise 4.5% Amid 21% Supply Drop
Australian wool prices rose again this week, led by a 4.5% surge in carding wool, despite a stronger Australian dollar, while overall volumes showed a 10% seasonal decline.
Supply tightened sharply with wool tested falling 21% year-on-year, and production over the past two years dropping by an amount equal to South Africa’s entire wool clip.
China expanded its dominance to 88.4% of exports in H1 2025-26, followed by India at 5.4% and Italy at 3.3%, with Italy the only major buyer to post a 6.3% import increase YoY.
Auctions will pause next week and resume on February 24, 2026, after the scheduled Spring Festival and New Year break.
